Abstract:

Sera from 668 large wild mammals (artiodactyla and carnivora) trapped from 1982 to 1984 in different areas in France, were studied for antibody against 14 arboviruses. By inhibition haemagglutination test, positive reactions were found against Arumowot (1.3%), Tahyna (1.2%) and Sicilian Sandfly fever (0.3%) viruses. By complement fixation test, antibodies were detected against: Eyach (1.3%), Brest/AN 219 (1.05%) a virus isolated from Crocidura russula in Mayenne, France and Tribec (0.7%). The positive reactions concern the following species: boar (Sus scrofa), red deer (Cervus elaphus), sheep, chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra) and fox (Vulpes vulpes). These results are discussed according to arboviruses isolated in France, to previous serosurveys in mammals and to potential vectors known to occur in France.
