Abstract:

Wild Norway rats (Rattus norvegicus) did not discriminate against diets containing the estrogen antagonist, 1-[2-[p-[α-(p-methoxyphenyl)-β-nitrostyryl]phenoxy]ethyl]pyrrol idine monocitrate, at concentrations of 1.2 μg/g and 3.0 μg/g of food when offered a free choice between treated and untreated rations. These drug concentrations resulted in average dose levels of 15 and 35 μg/rat/day. These levels were sufficient to prevent pregnancy in both groups of 7 rats each, compared with a pregnancy rate of 5 out of 7 in the untreated rats.
