Abstract:

This issue consists of seven individually authored papers. The first contribution examines the population development and recent distribution of Lynx lynx in the Czech Republic. At the end of 1995 the population size in the Czech Republic was estimated at 100-150, with a distributional range of 17 810 km2. The following five papers examine population characteristics, diet, distribution and reproduction in various parts of the Czech Republic; Bohemia Mountains; Labe River Sandstone Area; Aruby Jesenik Mountains; Podyji National Park; and Moravskoslezske Beskydy Mountains. The final paper discusses the current status of lynx in Slovakia. The issue is accompanied by a separately bound appendix (58 pp) comprising: list of lynx records in the Czech Republic 1945-1995; synopsis of lynx trapped in Slovakia and reintroduced to certain countries in Europe; and Czech/Slovak literature on the lynx.
